The Issue -

Term limits for council members/mayor will give other residents opportunity to run. New council members bring fresh ideas and help keep the council modern and progressive.

Section 3.08 of the current charter limits consecutive sessions to 16years.

No person may be elected or appointed for any terms aggregating to more than 8 years in length through any combination of the offices of Mayor, City Council Member, and person on any boards or commission. For purposes of this cumulative term limit, the period for the calculation begins with the date the member was first elected, relates to the actual time spent in office, and shall include any partial terms filled by that individual through any election or appointment. Any person who is currently sitting on the council that has already met this limit will not be eligible for re-election.

Amendments to the charter can only be done every 2 years, now is the time.

This is a way we can safeguard Princeton.

If any part of this/these CHARTER ITEMS shall be found in violation of state code at any time by a valid court of law outside of the City of Princeton, only that portion of the item found of violation may be modified if possible or stricken if necessary, as ordered by that court of law. Any remaining portion of that item shall NOT be modified or removed and shall remain valid and intact.
