What this election does tell you

Good news on our signature goal

Collin County’s election report gives only the county-wide registered voter total (795,862). It doesn’t list a separate count for the City of Princeton. But this week’s Place 6 race gives us a good way to estimate it.

About 10,099 Princeton residents voted a ballot that included the Place 6 race.

If Princeton’s turnout was between 45% and 60%, the city has roughly 17,000 to 22,000 registered voters.

A charter amendment petition needs signatures from 5% of registered voters, which works out to about 850 to 1,100 signatures.

Some signatures are always thrown out, so we’ll aim 25% higher, for a goal of about 1,060 to 1,375 signatures.

That’s well below our earlier estimate of 1,800 to 2,000. These are still estimates, and we’re waiting on the official registered voter count from the City Secretary. Either way, we’re closer to our goal than we thought.
